The piecing of my quilt “Earthshine,” a fanciful portrait of my son Sam, is now finished. That means it’s time to assemble the layers for quilting, and this Saturday’s blog post will cover that. (Prepping for quilting is covered in all my eWorkshops, including the Sea Turtle eWorkshop, above.) Read the previous posts about “Earthshine” (a.k.a. “Blue Moon Sam”) here and here and here and here and here and here! Yeah, it’s been a long time coming.
Assembling the three or four layers and basting the fabric sandwich together with safety pins, is the transitional stage from collage to quilt. It means I’m nearing the end of a journey. A journey which could have taken a week, a month, a year, or more. So on Saturday, take a breather with me as I near the end of the journey with my third portrait of Sam.
As a warm up, today’s Throwback Thursday includes a video and a link. The video uses a spiral collage as an example for prepping for quilting. The blog post link goes into more depth and carries on into the quilting stage itself.
