A couple weeks ago, I posted a third update of the progress of my son’s moon portrait. Coincidently, I was also into the third “final” draft stage and had finally come up with an arrangement I liked for the background. I’m still working on that third draft, possibly getting a bit carried away with the sheer fabrics I keep discovering in my and my mom’s stash. This week, to mix things up a little, I’ve got a video for you—a closer look at not just what I’m doing with those sheer fabrics, but how I’m doing it.

It’s not like I haven’t talked about sheer fabrics just a few times already in the over 5.5 years of blog posts, but every example is a little different—every collage is different, fabric selections are different. My hope is that you’ll get a little something different out of this post, Part 3.5 of Sam’s moon portrait—now officially titled, “Earthshine.”

“Earthshine” (Detail) by Susan Carlson. I used sheers and laces to further define and blend Sam’s nose and cheek, among other areas.
“Earthshine” (Detail) by Susan Carlson. I used other glittered and printed sheers both in the Earth’s globe and the background “universe.”
