Gluing is an integral skill in how I assemble my fabric collage. Let me explain why I use glue and give you some tips and tricks in the TBT below. If you’re wondering where you can get the glue I use and even a tool for helping to apply it (called a “Purple Thang”) should sticky fingers not be your “thang” ;-), visit the “Fabric Collage Toolkit.”

We recently got off to a great start with our next series of Thursday Night in My Studio Live! presentations. Thank you to those who attended and the Q&A questions you submitted. The first four steps in the fabric collage technique were discussed: choosing a photo, making a pattern, choosing fabric, and creating a palette. If you missed the live event, you can watch a recording of the presentation here: PURCHASE RECORDING $10.

A grouping of the next four steps in the fabric collage process starts with this Throwback Thursday’s post of “Why Glue?” The next three weeks will cover: navigating the messy-scary stage, the importance of sequence, and backgrounds. Then on February 25, the last Thursday of the month, we’ll have another Zoom meeting to discuss these four topics.

Here is what some of the attendees are saying about these Thursday Night in My Studio Live! presentations:

Seeing the webinars on my calendar always makes me smile, and gives me something wonderful to look forward to! —KATHLEEN H.

I have signed up for all three of the monthly Susan’s Thursday Night in My Studio Live! presentations. Susan is both enthusiastic and a good teacher and coach, with clear messaging, helpful tips and techniques. —SAM M.

I am new to this type of fabric art. I love it and really appreciate all of the blog posts of Susan’s. This Zoom really helped with fabric selection and how to cut and decide what to use. —VICKI P.

I really enjoyed my first zoom Thursday Night Live with Susan last week. The most important things I took away from the session was to use mainly fabrics with movement and designs in them and to cut palm sized pieces of fabric so that you are not daunted by your beautiful folded fabrics. —LYNETTE A.

I have taken her Thursday Night sessions since her first one [April 2020]. Last Thursday night my power went out from stormy weather five minutes before showtime and I was able to view [a recording of] all that I missed on my lunch hour at my desk while at work today! —SARAH M.

Wow, what a terrific class. Information was clear and crisp. She kept my attention for every minute. Susan is a great teacher. She obviously has the personal passion to impart her wisdom!! Gracias. —GLORIA M.

I’m a real newbie at this and so appreciate the demonstrations that Susan does and in such a calm, informative way! I learn a little more each time I watch her teach this art form. —JAN A.

The Thursday night workshops are the highlight of my week and month. Each workshop provides a new inspiration and a better understanding of how to achieve the inspiration. Just watching Susan cut the fabric and place it together is a big help. I thoroughly enjoy looking at the work of others and learning through each experience. I feel fully supported in my exciting learning process. —SANDY Z.

I learned so much from this class, even though I have been doing collage for quite a while. Susan’s thoughts on color, shading, and experimenting with fabrics were very helpful as I develop my skills. I will definitely register for another!  —SHELLEY R.

Thank you Ladies, for all those thoughts, and more—you gave me quite the lift. 🙂
