I sometimes receive requests for shorter fabric collage classes, ones that only take a couple days. My go-to class in that case is a fish, bug, and butterfly class. These simple subjects are easy enough to make good progress on in a short period of time. In 2019 I visited three quilt guilds in the Pacific northwest. They each wanted their own short class, so in a period of a couple weeks I saw lots and lots of these projects. Check out today’s Throwback Thursday for my event in Sammamish, WA, for examples of these colorful fabric collages.
On the Road: Washington State Fish, Bug, and Butterfly Classes
If these sound like fun, you may be interested to join me vie Zoom in my four-week series “Thursday Night Follow-Along: Quilter’s Trophy Fish.” Create your own fish as I make my own and show examples of others. The object is to simply play with fabric, have fun, and be creative.
Fish come in interesting shapes and wild colors, with fins and spots and stripes and all sorts of embellishments. I’ve found out that as long as you include a head, a body, a couple of fins and a tail, there’s no doubt it’s a fish! It’s the type of subject where you can let your imagination run as wild as the colors, and it’ll still look like a fish.
This mini-course will feature four weekly live demos on Zoom—recorded to view later if needed—plus homework for you (and your fish) over the following week. See the links below for more information or to register.
