I trust you are all managing well during these trying times. There seems to be very little we can do but hunker down and wait it out. In fact, that seems like the best thing we can do. I hope you find these posts a diversion from coronavirus induced worry and stress. I know it does me good to think of all of you on the other end of these posts, in our own socially-safe network. Take care and stay well, everyone.

In this week’s Throwback Thursday, “Using Sheer, Netting, and other Semi-Transparent Fabrics,” I talk about how I use those filmy, decorative fabrics. As I demonstrate in the blog post below, sheers (a term I use to describe all these fabrics) can be used in various ways.

  1. To add glitz
  2. To add highlights
  3. To add shadows
  4. To soften or blend fabrics

Using Sheer, Netting, and other Semi-Transparent Fabrics

This post ties in nicely with tonight’s Thursday Night in My Studio Live presentation. This week I will present a slide show of my quilt “Monarch Maia.” Then I will display some of the many decorative sheers, nettings, and other semi-transparent fabrics I sometimes employ, and demonstrate how I apply them. On Saturday, in your regular post, the slideshow will appear in this week’s blog post update to my Quilt Story of “Monarch Maia.” A full version of the presentation will be available on demand on Saturday for $5. Free to Thursday night attendees.

For an up-to-date listing of current and past presentations, visit the front page of this website and scroll down to the Thursday Night in My Studio Live! section.

  • Bless your ever-loving pea picking heart, Susan! What a great gift to share with your readers/doers. We are home fo over a month now and thankful that we live in the country so we can go for long walks with our two dogs. As soon as I finish the masks I am making for family/friends and a local nursing home I’m going to get back to sewing for the joy of it. I’ll enjoy the pattern I downloaded. Thank you for your generosity,
    Paula

  • You are a fabric genius! I have seen your crocodile/alligator collage at Houston and was totally amazed. What a gift you have, and it is wonderful that you share it.
