This Saturday, I’ll continue with another in the year-ending series of Finish Line posts. It’s always interesting to see what catches peoples’ attention. One comment from last week’s Finish Line was how the reader loved the information on backgrounds. The post wasn’t necessarily about backgrounds—but it does of course come up when one is finishing a quilt—and my students do come up with some pretty good solutions. It just goes to show that you can learn about fabric collage even when I’m not trying to teach you anything.

Since there was interest in backgrounds, this week’s Throwback Thursday is about backgrounds—specifically how to fill in those pesky corners that look so empty once your main image is complete.

And something totally unplanned by me or Tom, I just noticed that at the end of this Throwback post, I wished you a Happy Summer (or Winter) Solstice depending on the hemisphere you live in. Well, it now happens to be almost exactly six months since the original posting, and I’d like to now wish you a Happy Winter (or Summer) Solstice—depending on the hemisphere you live in. In either case, may your days be shiny and bright—regardless of how long they are.

Stay tuned this Saturday for more quilts in the Fabric Collage Aviary.
