This past week I finished up a live online fabric collage class. One question that came up during the week and often comes up in class is: How small a scrap is too small to save? Followed by its corollary when they hear my answer: How do you store all those tiny pieces of fabric?

Indeed, I consider no scrap too small to save. Especially as you near the final draft of your collage where you’re adding the finishing details, you’ll find all those slivers useful as heck. Once I was teaching a class in a classroom where we forgot to tell the housekeeping not to vacuum—and of course they did. One of my students was almost in tears because she had been waiting for the last day of class to sift through the scraps that fell to the floor.

Storage is delightfully simple (hint: see above). They can be organized by project, by color, or any way you choose.

Whatever you do, just don’t get rid of them! Because no scrap is too small to save.
