In honor of my son Sam’s birthday today, this week’s Throwback Thursday features the quilt portraits I’ve made of him.
Starting with the most recent, there’s the two part (so far) posts about my quilt “Blue Moon Sam” (working title) which is in progress. This quilt was started during a series of creating facial features in fabric collage for my Thursday Night in My Studio presentations, and a blog post in which I talked about where inspiration comes from. The idea of a recognizable portrait within a celestial being spawned a later-in-the-year two-part Thursday Night series: how to combine a photo of a person you know into my Sun Pattern or Moon Pattern.
“Blue Moon Sam” is based on a photo of him at 23 years old. The other two portraits of Sam span a decade each, when he was 13 and beginning when he was 3 years old.
Help me wish him a Happy 24th Birthday by enjoying these posts.
