Next week I travel to Australia for a short “holiday” and to teach at the Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) in Melbourne.

This will be my second opportunity to teach at AQC. The first time in April of 2016, I met student Terri Ahrens—that’s me and her in the photo above. However, the in-progress portrait of her son that you see, was started last year in a different Australian class, a retreat in Urunga (at Caroline Sharkey’s “Sewing Up a Coastal Storm” Retreat), in May 2018, which is this week’s Throwback Thursday.

This Saturday I’ll present a very special and dramatic quilt that Terri created between the two classes—and the connection she made with another international student of mine, Ria Mille from the Netherlands, who you have met through my two “Belgium Connection” posts (click here and here).

On the Road: Urunga, Australia

And if you happen to have the opportunity to attend the Australasian Quilt Convention in mid-April, be sure to check out  “Polka Dodo”—this year’s convention poster quilt (see below)! Dodo will be coming to Melbourne with me, along with my “Tickled Pink” rhino, both will be hanging in the show’s exhibit. And be sure to say hi if you see me!

  • Your popularity as a collage teacher has grown exponentially. Congratulations. I’m still waiting for you to schedule a class in the Maryland area. Our eastern shore towns are both beautiful and accessible by auto, plane and train.

  • Lucky you! Give my love to Terri. I am very interested to see what beauties she has made since our brief encounter in Antwerp.

  • I am not able to attend a workshop but I am loving the online class, the inspiration, the creativity and how happy being part of this learning experience makes me feel!
