This Saturday in your regular blog post I’ll be revisiting the theme of backgrounds in fabric collage. I tackled this topic once in “Telling the Story: Fabric Collage Backgrounds,” but at a recent retreat when I gave my talk about the corners of backgrounds, it inspired me to concentrate on that area. After all that’s usually where all the empty space is, so what do you do to fill it?

A portrait, a fish, a pet, a turtle—all these subjects tend to hold the center of the composition, creating empty spaces in the corners. My quilt of our three pets, “Golden Temple of the Good Girls,” gave me this challenge. I solved the problem by using “architectural” blocks in the corners. In the Throwback Thursday link below, take a special look at the upper corners of the piece, where I extended the idea of creating a temple for our pets into the background corners.

Website Progress! Website Progress?

The problem with the website’s shopping cart has been corrected. You can now purchase Patterns and the Fabric Collage Master Class Manual online. Hurray!

In the best tradition of two steps ahead, one step back, if you are having troubles using the Master Class on your iPad or other touchscreen device, it’s not your fault! This is especially evident when you sign in to the Master Class Manual. At the Your Account page, the links to subsequent pages are nonfunctional—on touch screens. The Master Class Manual and all the rest work fine on your home computer or it seems any device other than a touch screen.
