Next Saturday, October 7, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern time, registration for my five 2018 Maine quilt retreats opens up. I’ve had a number of people wonder how to do it, so I’m taking this time to explain how the registration process will work. Hopefully, if I do this right, I’ll answer more questions than I create.

For the rest of you who’s plans for next year will not include a trip to Maine, please excuse this break in my usual posts—you might have been expecting the final entry in my online class preview featuring “Kissin’ Cousins,” a quilt I’m currently finishing up. I’ll be posting that next week instead (at 4:00 a.m. Eastern) in addition to the blog post announcing the opening of 2018 Maine quilt retreat registration (at 9:00 a.m. Eastern).

As a little extra for this week’s post, below is a video walkthrough of my 4-day September Maine Retreat that just wrapped up. If you’re waiting to sign up for a 2018 retreat or not, may you enjoy this short mid-week stroll through my classroom at the Harpswell Inn, viewing the work that this set of diligent students were in the midst of creating. Enjoy.

The Registration Process for Susan Carlson’s 2018 Maine Quilt Retreats

Step One: Receive Notice of Registration Opening

If you are signed up to receive either this blog or my newsletter, you will receive an email notification at 9:00 a.m. eastern time on Saturday, October 7 (6:00 a.m. on the west coast) that registration has opened. For those of you reading this on Facebook, I suggest you sign up for one or the other here, susancarlson.com/subscribe/, in order to receive notification in a timely manner.

If you receive the blog, you’ll click on the link that takes you to the post. In that post you will find five links, one for each class.

If you receive the newsletter, the five links (one for each class) will appear in the email itself.

PLEASE NOTE: Registration will not be possible through my website or online calendar. The links for registration will only be available through the blog or newsletter.

Step Two: Choose a Class (or more than one)

You may already know which class you want to attend. If not, here’s a reminder of the dates, venues, and fees. Please note that the October 15-19 date is for advanced students only—meaning past students who have attended at least two of my 4- to 5-day classes.

1. April 9-13: Five days at the Old Port Hyatt in Portland, Maine, All Levels, Price $925

2. June 5-8: Four days at the Harpswell Inn in Harpswell, Maine, All Levels, Price $740

3. October 2-5: Four days at the Harpswell Inn in Harpswell, Maine, All Levels, $740

4. October 15-19: Five days at the Old Port Hyatt in Portland, Maine, Advanced Students Only, $925

5. October 22-26: Five days at the Old Port Hyatt in Portland, Maine, All Levels, $925

For more information, including a description of the classes, see my 2018 Maine Retreat Dates.

Step Three: Click on the Class You Want to Attend

Clicking on the link for the class you want to attend will take you to the site where registration actually happens—Eventbee.com. There you will find a description of the class. Be sure to verify that you chose the correct date.

Step Four: Click on “Buy Tickets”

There is a non-refundable deposit of $100 to secure your spot in the retreat. You may reserve up to four tickets, for yourself and three others. You will need a credit card in order to make your deposit ($100 for each ticket) and thus secure your registration. If the “Buy Tickets” button is grayed out, this means the class is already full. Click on the “Put Me On Waitlist” button to be added to the waitlist. There is no charge to be added to the waitlist.

Please do not be discouraged if you are directed to the waitlist. There are only sixty openings in my 2018 retreats—twelve students per class. I suspect there are many more people than that waiting to sign up. Those spots are going to fill quickly. Last year they were filled within two days—this year it may be much quicker due to the interest that has been growing due to my blog.

Waitlists do get used and people do get in. Please leave your name and contact info, so I can get ahold of you if a space does open up. Again, there is no deposit required to be added to the waitlist. If contacted, you will have a given amount of time to respond and send in a payment.

Step Five: Receive Notification of Registration

The way that Eventbee.com works, if you successfully register for the class you will receive a “printable ticket” via email. However, until you pay your balance (see below) your registration is incomplete. Your place is held but if payment isn’t received by the deadline, the next person on the waitlist will be offered a place in the class.

If on the other hand, you are placed on the waitlist, you will receive an email that says you have been “Waitlisted.”

Payment

If you successfully register for a class, the balance of the fee (minus your deposit) will be due six months before the class. I will contact you by email in order to make your payment. You will be able to pay your balance by credit card (via Paypal) or by check.

Cancellation

Please be sure you are able to attend a class before registering. However, I understand that life happens—the best laid plans and all that. If you cannot attend a class you have registered for, the closer to the date of the class that you cancel, the harder it becomes for me to find a replacement for you. If you have to cancel, I will refund a portion of your payment. I have instituted the following charges for cancellation:

Registration-120 days prior to retreat: $100 non-refundable deposit
119-91 days prior to retreat: $200
90-61 days prior to retreat: $300
60 days or less prior to retreat: No Refund.

You may transfer your reservation to another person if unable to attend.

So remember, next Saturday you will receive two blog posts: your regularly scheduled post (at 4:00 a.m. Eastern) and the post with links for registering for my 2018 Maine quilt retreats (at 9:00 a.m. Eastern).

Thank you. As always, I am grateful that so many of you want to travel to Maine to attend a class.
