You may remember some recent posts about my teaching fabric collage in Bar Harbor, Maine (see links below). If you are intrigued by the class and location, I will be returning to Bar Harbor next year. Its location bordering Acadia National Park has helped to make this class a perennial favorite of mine. I have also enjoyed our class trips to forage for fabric at the local Marden’s Surplus and Salvage stores.

Susan Carlson Ongoing Open Studio Hours: Weekly Fabric Collage Coaching
Tuesdays, November–December, 2025
1/2 hour time slots, $65 each
One afternoon a week, I’ll be available to help, encourage, and coach anyone who needs it—between the hours of 1pm-4pm Eastern Time. This could be to continue working on an in-progress collage, or to begin a new project—whatever is desired.
Sign-up can be for one day or multiple days—every week, every two weeks, once a month or once only. These sessions will be recorded and emailed to you, just as coaching sessions are, so they can be referred to as needed.

I’ve met with Susan three times since our class (once a week) and each session has been inspiring, motivating, and very helpful in terms of defining my path forward (and also creating some accountability relative to that path…). Before each session, I think about what areas I would like to focus on and send off a photo with my questions. In this way, I get from Susan exactly the support I need, plus a video recording to remember it. Meanwhile, preparing for my session helps me make my project a priority so I see ongoing progress, which is gratifying.

The Facial Features eWorkshop contains 8 videos and over 8 hours of in-depth instruction for creating each feature of a portrait in fabric. Hi Susan, your plan of offering half hour time slots for individual coaching over December is a great idea. However I would have loved it one week prior. I was struggling with my first collage Sun, which I started in Citta Della Pieve. I did get help and feedback from some of the other ladies on the course, however a one to one couching from you would have been perfect. The process seems to have gone on for ever!!
You say that one knows when one is finished, well I’m at this stage now. I’ve added extra pieces and tulles, and happy with my quilt. Now the background and quilting to be done.
Thanks again for your patience and teaching, I thoroughly enjoyed your workshop.
