Like other categories of quilting, I see fabric collage as an art form. But unlike our “grandmother’s quilts” that were intended to also function as a bed quilt, the collage quilts I’m talking about need a wall for display purposes—like my 14 inch square “Bindi Sol” (above), stretched over wooden stretcher bars.
So, how exactly are you going to display your hard work and artistic vision. I have used several different ways to hang my art on the wall. From the traditional quilt-show sleeve to framing under glass, there’s a solution that fits the size and shape of your fabric collage quilt. Smaller quilts—such as some of the fish quilts created through my Quilter’s Fantastical Trophy Fish presentations (see eWorkshop below)—may benefit from a different treatment than a large-scale wall hanging, for example.
See the various methods I’ve employed to display fabric art in this week’s following Throwback Thursday post.
