During my week-long classes, late on day one or at the latest on day two, students will enter the Messy-Scary Stage. This is the point where they have a significant amount done but not enough to see how it’s all going to fall together in the end. It’s a daunting moment and one that students have to just push through, trust in the process, and know that it will all work out in the end. The post below gives you a pep talk if you need it to get over the hump of the Messy-Scary Stage.
The Messy-Scary Stage is especially intimidating when the subject is something near and dear to the students heart: a dear relative or departed pet are common examples. So when first learning fabric collage it’s sometimes easier to choose a fun, light-hearted subject. That’s what students did in my Quilter’s Fantastical Trophy Fish Zoom Work-Along. The project allowed students to let go of their expectations and just have fun playing with fabric. And what fun they had. I asked for submissions of their work and they did not disappoint. This Saturday in your regular post you’ll see the first in a FOUR part series of posts featuring their work. Something to look forward to!
