Last Saturday in one of Tom’s Favorite Posts, we revisited Unlearning Looking and Learning Seeing Part 1—Colors, that invited us to reevaluate how we see when making our fabric choices. Specifically, I showed how even a very monotone—seemingly single-colored—subject, when examined closely, can contain a wide variety of colors.
Today, we look at Part 2 in the Looking vs. Seeing series. Using Jean McCreary’s parrot (above) as an example, I show how seeing clearly helps us recreate our subject more accurately. I constantly refer back to the photo of my subject when creating a fabric collage quilt. By truly understanding what you are seeing you can better replicate the image in fabric.
