In last Saturday’s post, I showed readers the fabric selection I’m using for my new Fly on the Wall series, Sunshine Oma (see details below to register). But I pulled a twist on the selection by only showing the fabrics in black and white values, see above photo. The point was that regardless of color your selection of fabric for fabric collage should include a wide range of value, from very light to very dark with a variety of mid-ranges as well.

Coming up this Saturday, I’ll take that same selection of fabrics and reveal them in all their colorful glory as I show how I used the printed patterns in the fabric as cutting guides to create my fabric collage palette for my Sunshine Oma collage.

In fact, I already started using this fabric palette last week in our first Sunshine Oma Fly on the Wall session. It’s not too late to catch up and join us for the next three Thursday night sessions. When you register you’ll receive links to recordings of the past session in this series.

In the meantime, this Throwback Thursday will reveal how to make a fabric collage palette for your next project.

Watch—and work along with me—as I create a collage portrait of my lovely mama (a.k.a. Oma) as a radiant sun face—to have ready for her 90th birthday at the end of January.

Each session is recorded so don’t worry if you miss something during the presentation or even miss the entire evening. You’ll be able to catch up with the recording.

For those who wish to try their hand at a sun portrait, in addition to the slideshow, demo, Q&A, and full recordings of the four presentations, registrants will also receive all of the following:

• A free PDF of my Sun Portrait pattern.

• Free access to the Thursday Night in My Studio Live! recorded presentation (see preview below) that explains how to adapt my Sun Face pattern to a photo of a particular person.

• And a $20 discount for a one-on-one coaching session scheduled for January or February 2023—in case you’re interested in specialized help with your own work-along creation.
