This year, at the end of this month, from April 27-30, my collection of large (mostly) animal quilts, “Specimens,” will have its next big exposure at the AQS Quiltweek-Paducah show. Aside from the exhibit, I will be giving a lecture that Friday talking about my twelve “Specimens” quilts.

I also plan to hang around the exhibit, off and on (between enjoying the rest of the show!), to say hi and answer questions. Maybe I’ll see you there!

Six years ago “Specimens” had its first showing at the International Quilt Festival—Houston. That’s the subject of this week’s Throwback Thursday. Whether or not you can attend this year’s American Quilter’s Society show in Paducah, the following post will give you a glimpse into the scale, color, and energy of these mega quilt shows.

  • Wow. Just WOW! I’ve looked at “Stevie” many times for inspiration but to see y’all standing in front of her gives me a whole new perspective. I knew she was huge but Holy Moley! My mind wonders now to how many THOUSANDS of snippets of fabric there must be in that quilt! And how many individual fabrics there must be. Thanks, Susan. Great post!

  • The Universe’s timing is at work yet again for me. I am participating in a challenge in my guild’s mini group, and for my project this month I wanted to do a collage. I will be signing up for the Spiral workshop. Sounds like the perfect lesson to get me going. Thank you.
