Almost exactly six years ago, I was in Wisconsin to to see the premier of my 22-foot quilt “Crocodylus Smylus” at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts.  It was a truly inspirational exhibit to be a part of, featuring dozens of fiber artists and over 100 animal inspired works in fiber. This week’s TBT is an account of my excursion to that show. My friend Darlene Determan, who also had quilts included, accompanied me.

The completion of Stevie as I have nicknamed the quilt, spurred by its inclusion in this show, seemed to serve as the catalyst for some important developments in my art and teaching. Tom started working with me. We began writing this weekly blog. We developed online learning resources such as the Fabric Collage Master Class.

So much has happened since Stevie came into being. I hope you are having fun following along.

  • I am just awed by Stevie and she inspired me to make my life-size sturgeon quilt- I named her Stella the Sturgeon. She’s very small compared to Stevie but I had the very best time making her and am very proud of her, too. I learned so much about sturgeon along the way- amazing fish!

  • I so admire your work!
