Instead of this week’s regular Throwback Thursday, I decided on a “Throw Ahead Thursday,” looking to my new exhibit that just opened a week ago at the New England Quilt Museum (NEQM) in Lowell, Massachusetts, and will be on display for three months through December 30th.
Tom had delivered the quilts while I was off on teaching travels, and once back home, I was excited to see the show. So last Saturday, Tom and I made an impromptu sort of 2-1/2 hour drive—bringing along his mom—to see the display.
NEQM is housed in an old bank building with lots of character. It’s a wonderful space, leading you from room to room, getting up close and personal with the quilts, but also being able to get back and see them from a distance. Some of them need that, especially “Crocodylus Smylus”! I am very pleased with the show and how the quilts are displayed.
While I was there I got to surprise a few viewers, including a couple from Poland who had come to see the show (they were living here in the states for a year). I also had a grand time goofing around with one of the docents, Frances (sorry, I didn’t get your last name. But you said you’d be there next time I visit so I’ll catch you then!).
I won’t say much more, except to give my thanks once again to my long-time friend Pam Weeks, curator at NEQM for the invitation to exhibit. I hope the show draws in plenty of people to help support the museum.
And don’t forget I’ll be there for a curator’s reception and gallery talk on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00 p.m., so stop by if you’re in the neighborhood!
Let’s take quick tour to whet your appetite.
Congratulations, Susan, on this honor. I look forward to seeing your quilts in person at this exhibit. You have inspired me for many years.
Congratulations! What a beautiful exhibit! I wish I could visit it in person – I would love to see Tickled Pink and Stevie and all the others in person. But you did a great job sharing photographs with us! ~ Karen Harris
Congratulations on a wonderful exhibit and accomplishments! We, in the quilting community, are so proud of you!

I love the contrast of your earlier works to where you are now. Lovely exhibit.
Amazing! Your work is so inspirational. Thank you for sharing. Do you ever come to Vancouver, Canada? We rarely get the opportunity to see quilt artists like you.

I so adore your amazing work and wish I could get to NEQM to see this show!! I am from MA and now live in VA and a trip is not in the cards!! Is there any chance that you will be coming down this way to teach anytime soon?? I was not able to attend your class at Artistic Artifacts several years back and I was so very upset!!
