The theme of our recent Throwback Thursdays has been inspiration—where it comes from and how to get it. That theme continues today with a post that first appeared on February 29, 2020. That’s right, Leap Day, so at the time I thought it completely made sense to talk about taking a leap of faith, a creative leap of faith.
Some people (or critters such as my golden toad, “Million to One,” above) seem to be made to take the leap, but many aren’t. It’s easy to believe that you need to feel inspired in order to create. That is sometimes true. But often I find the most creative people are the ones who are willing to take risks and make a leap even when they don’t feel creative. It’s more of a nose-to-the-grindstone sort of attitude which stands the commonly accepted vision of creativity on its head. Sometimes, it’s by doing the work that a sense of inspiration is created. Rather than waiting for inspiration to strike, go out and seek it.
If you think of inspiration as a lightning strike, the really creative people are the ones out there in the thunderstorm waving around umbrellas.
May this post stir something creative in you. Let me know in the comments if it does.
