This week our look back at places in the world I have visited while teaching fabric collage takes us to the great Pacific Northwest. In September 2019, I taught in three quilt guilds around Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula. Tom accompanied me and between classes we visited some of the sights. You may recognize the iconic Pike Place Market, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the Space Needle (in photo above), but Tom found a few other adventures to go on as well, his favorite being “Doggystock,” a musical benefit for rescue animals.
And of course there were plenty of wild and imaginative and amazing fabric collage quilts, mostly of the bug and butterfly or fish variety. When teaching for guilds, the classes may only be a two or three days long, so I limit the subject matter to ones that can be (mostly) done in that time.
If you are inspired by these colorful and creative pieces, remember I have two “follow along” classes—either Fantastical Fish or Fascinating Bugs and Butterflies—coming up in the new year. See this 2025 class schedule link for more information and to register.
