How do they do it? How do they make the fur on their cat or dog or highland coo or musk ox (such as the one above by Joan Hodgeboom) look realistic using fabric? This post describes the basic strategy, which is to avoid trying to create fur strand by strand. It’s especially tempting to create long stringy or fluffy hair this way. Instead I encourage my students to tackle fur in patches or bunches. Let the pattern in the fabric work for you.
