This post featuring my quilt “Dixie Dingo Dreaming” tells the story of my dearly departed dog Pippin. Having a story attached to a quilt adds a depth of meaning in addition to the purely visual aspect. Having a story to tell helps me make decisions. Like when someone who heard that Pippin was adopted from a Georgia rescue, said that she (Pippin) must be a “dixie dingo.” That word dingo set off a whole chain of connections that led to me making the entire quilt from Australian Aboriginal designed fabrics. I then used these fabrics to tell a story of our entire family, people and pets included.
This post has been updated a couple different times to add even more content. I’ve included a slide show presentation I did on the quilt and a video explaining how exactly I used the Aboriginal fabrics, to tell Pippin’s story.
