This week’s Throwback Thursday provides guidance on how to create the illusion of feathers in fabric collage. Recreating the beauty of birds has been a favorite subject in my classes—one student in my Live Online Class this week is collaging a swan. She is quite experienced, however, and knows better than to try to create each individual feather. Using fabric to “indicate” the feathers in an area rather than creating each one is the trick, as the post will show you with its many examples, such as Marilyn Davidson’s heron (above). Look for the swan from my Live Online Class (and the many, many dogs) in upcoming blog posts.

Once this week’s Live Online Class is finished, I’ll be turning around relatively quickly (after Thanksgiving) to start my next Fly on the Wall: Susan Carlson Studio Watch. In this new four-part Thursday-night series, while viewers watch over my shoulder, I plan to finish the construction of my lace polar bear “Winfrieda.” See this link and the details below for more information.
