During my career as a teacher of fabric collage I have had the opportunity to travel to many places in the country and world. But one of the most unique places I’ve taught is on Madeline Island in Lake Superior. That’s where the Madeline Island School of the Arts (MISA) is headquartered. A year ago this month I took a plane, then another plane, then a shuttle, then a ferry, and then a car to arrive at their campus to teach for the first time since COVID descended upon us. It’s a lovely place, well worth the travel arrangements to visit, as you will see in this week’s Throwback Thursday.
And this Saturday in your regular post, I’ll finish up my two-part post about my latest teaching for MISA last month, this time at their off-season haunts in warm and sunny Santa Fe, New Mexico—prior to the soaring temperatures the Southwest is now enduring. It was my first visit to Santa Fe, so check out the contrasting landscapes in the touristy photos I took, but more important be inspired by the collaged images produced by the talented and inspirational students in both weeks of classes.
