In April 2019 B.P. (Before Pandemic), Tom and I had a wonderful time on a trip we took to Australia. I had been invited to teach at the AQC—Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne, Australia. We arrived a week before the convention and did some sight-seeing in the state of Victoria, especially along the Great Ocean Road, location of the famous sandstone pillars, the 12 Apostles.

We had a busy week, doing all the things that according to native Australians they never do. I got kissed by a dingo (above). Saw platypuses in their habitat. Petted roos and their smaller cousins wallabies. While I was teaching at the conference, Tom even kayaked on the Yarra River in the center of Melbourne. All those things that less than a year later would have disappeared in the global lockdown. So we’re quite grateful for the opportunity and timing of that trip, and found ourselves recently reminiscing about it.

The post covers both our travels and my class at AQC—one of the most fun and memorable teaching events I have ever been to—those Aussies know how to throw a party. It’s a get comfy and pour-yourself-another-cuppa post for a bit of armchair travel.

Check out the (many) photos of our journey, and of course, fabric collage by my lovely students in this week’s TBT below. Cheers!
