Now that we are starting a new year, we’ll be using these Throwback Thursdays to start you on your fabric collage journey. In the coming weeks, we take you through the fabric collage technique, step-by -step, starting with today’s post on choosing an image.

A fabric collage quilt always starts with the image, like the one above of our dog, Kali. The image has to inspire me. But what inspires me is not what will necessarily inspire you. So how do you choose as image from the thousands on your cell phone or the millions you can find online (used with permission, of course)?

Thankfully there are parameters you can use to narrow down your choices. Not all poses are equal for your subject, especially if you’re a beginner. The quality of images varies and impacts which you should choose. In the post below I walk through the steps I take to choose an image for a fabric collage quilt.
