The end of the year feels a little bit like stumbling down a hill. The holidays seem to create some form of gravity, pulling us toward December 31, faster and faster we go. For many, the end of 2020 can’t come (and be forgotten) soon enough. Others are trying to cram in as much as possible before year’s end. I think we’re somewhere in the middle. We’ve started looking back on the year to see what we’ve accomplished and figuring out what’s left to do.
For example, my Thursday Night from My Studio Live! presentations have been a huge part of this year. I’m proudest of the two series—8 presentations in all!—on creating fabric collage faces. (Visit my website and scroll down to view these videos which are for sale for $7.) This week’s Throwback Thursday revisits some student work from the first series on facial features. These faces are all in progress, but I’m sure you’ll see one or more of them in an upcoming Finish Line post.
Tonight we finish up the latest series of Thursday Night presentations, a pair of demonstrations on how to customize my Moon and Sun portrait patterns with features of someone you know. (There’s still room in tonight’s Sun pattern program: click here to register.)
We’re now looking to find room in the schedule for a couple more Thursday Night presentations before the end of the year, between holidays, and around our other tasks.
Here’s what we’ve come up with:
Smart Phone Quilt Photography: December 10, 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time
You don’t need to be a professional and have lots of fancy equipment to take good photos of your quilts. Take flattering photos of your quilts with the camera in your pocket: your smart phone! This presentation will expand on a blog post covering this topic, so read up on the hints and techniques here, then attend the live presentation featuring Tom and I as we walk you through the steps and answer any questions.
Thursday Night in My Studio Live! 2020 Wrap Up with Student Gallery: December 17, 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time
This free presentation will star more Thursday Night inspired works from attendees. Learn how to take a super shot of your quilt the previous week, then send in those photos for a year end fabric collage show! If you created a collage based on or inspired by our Thursday Night presentations, please submit them at whatever stage they are at. Use the link below to submit your quilts. Be sure to mention Thursday Night in your submission.
Submit Quilt for "Finish Line"
I’ll also share what I’ve been working on and what I have coming up in the new year, which includes new ways and new opportunities for learning fabric collage.
