In this third week in a series of four Throwback Thursdays featuring my summer Maine Quilt Retreats, we head back to 2018 for June’s class held at the iconic Harpswell Inn. Here’s a link to a brief history of the Inn, which has stood in its current location since 1761 when it was the cookhouse for Lookout Point Shipyard.
Jean Savalchak’s portrait of her daughter (above) made a repeat appearance at this retreat. She was finishing it up at this point, trying out different backgrounds. A previous portrait of Jean’s husband, “Portrait of the Quilter’s Husband as a Young Man,” was featured in this Finish Line post.
If you want a real taste of what it’s been like to attend one of my Maine Summer retreats, this is a good post to read. It covers classroom work with hints about creating your pattern and which pinning boards to use, meals at the Inn and at a local restaurant, a visit to my studio where Stevie the Crocodile quilt hangs, and scenic shots of Lookout Point, which is just down the hill from the Inn. The view of the small islands at sunset has to be one of the most photographed images in Maine.
This post also includes a time lapse video of Lookout Point. In it Tom combined a year and a half of photos I had taken into one four-minute video. Winter and summer, high tide and low, sunshine and clouds, always changing.
