Since I started this blog in November of 2015, I have hosted four Maine summer quilt retreats—2016 through 2019 inclusive—so for each of the next four weeks I’ll be revisiting those summertime events in their yearly order.

In the June 2016 retreat, I met Jerri Stroud, where she started the collage of her granddaughter (above). Jerri went on to create numerous fabric collage quilts—so much so that we gave her her very own Finish Line blog post in January of this year.

My Maine Quilt Retreats seemed like fitting Throwback Thursday posts since this week begins our four-week stay-at-home in Maine (working) vacation. Tom and I may be taking a break from producing any new blog posts during this time, but your inbox will continue to receive Throwback Thursday posts and also what we’re calling Summer Rerun Saturdays. On Thursdays you can stay “home” with us in Maine, and on Saturdays you can travel back in time with me to other locations around the States and on the other side of the world.

All the upcoming eight posts will showcase the fabric collage accomplishments of former students in classes from years past and have been chosen to entertain you in a summertime sort of way as well—easy excursions while relaxing in the comfort of your own home—no face masks needed to keep you safe.

This first Thursday of four, we’ll be traveling back to 2016 and the Maine Quilt Retreat I hosted at the Harpswell Inn, a short walk down the road from my studio. This wasn’t my first Maine retreat (the first was back in 2010, or maybe it was 2011?) but 2016’s retreat was the first documented in blog form.

Join me and my students on our get-to-know-you dinner out to a local restaurant, five days of instruction (a few examples of their work above), and a special visit to my studio complete with Tom’s special blueberry pie. This weekend in the Summer Rerun Saturday post I’ll revisit two 2016 classes and my trip to warm and steamy Florida.
