In May 2017 I taught at the Needle Art Seminar on Mackinac Island, Michigan. There in the island’s historic and massive Grand Hotel, I taught both a fabric collage fish class and a sea turtle class. What an experience! From being driven to the hotel in a horse-drawn carriage to the formal dress code at each dinner, it was an event to remember.
But it’s the turtle class I want to highlight this week, as this Saturday in your regular post I’ll present a Fabric Collage Finish Line post full of sea turtles. In that post you’ll see Kerry Steck’s finished quilt (in progress, above), along with two others begun on the island. A turtle class was the perfect choice for this location as the name “Mackinac” (pronounced MAK-in-aw) is an anglicized version of the Native American name for turtle, which the shape of this island is reminiscent of.
All this attention on sea turtles is of course because of my upcoming sea turtle eWorkshop. Look for information coming soon on how to purchase this comprehensive lesson in making your own fabric collage sea turtle.
Fabric Collage Master Class
For instructions on the entire fabric collage process, you can purchase the Susan Carlson Fabric Collage Online Master Class Manual. Using video, photos, and text I take you from soup to nuts, beginning to end in creating your own fabric collage masterpiece.
