This Saturday your regular weekly blog post will land on February 29. That’s right, leap day.
In honor of that auspicious date, and inspired by some recent comments from readers, who often say that they’ll have to try fabric collage one day “when they get up the courage”, I’ll be talking about taking the leap of faith to try something new. Like fabric collage, for example. 🙂
Unfortunately, too many of us lack the confidence to attempt new things, especially an art or craft, which may be seen as frivolous or useless. This lack of confidence often comes from our childhoods, when a casual but critical comment from a parent or other authority figure caused us to give up.
That’s what this week’s Throwback Thursday is about: how we can be derailed by criticism, but also how we can be inspired by an encouraging comment. (Be sure to read the comments section of the post where readers shared their “art shaming” moments.)
Then this Saturday, I’ll give you the pep talk you may need to either try fabric collage for the first time or to tackle that big project you’ve been putting off.

I just started a new bullet journal in Jan. This month I added a quote …’creativity takes courage’. It takes a lot to stand up for your own art. Thanks for the throwback reminder!
