In a month I’ll mark the fourth anniversary of this blog. As that date approaches, I’ll be using these Throwback Thursdays to look back at how it started and how the blog has progressed.

Our very first blog post kicked off with the creation of my 20-foot long saltwater crocodile as a quilt entitled “Crocodylus Smylus.” Stevie (as I nicknamed her) was such a huge project that it took three full blog posts to tell her story. She was also featured in five other blog posts as she made her way from her 2015 debut at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts, held center court in my special exhibit at the 2016 International Quilt Festival in Houston, traveled Down Under to the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne that same year, and starred in an episode of Quilting Arts TV. All these posts are linked within the Quilt Story that is this week’s Throwback Thursday.

While you’re there, be sure to check out the time lapse (2-1/2 minute) movie of the creation of “Crocodylus Smylus.”

This Saturday, in your regular post, you’ll be treated to a Finish Line of completed student work submitted through our online submission page, which you can access here to submit your own fabric collage quilts.
