This week is my husband Tom’s birthday. So both this Throwback Thursday and the regular Saturday post will feature quilts of him. In the post below I describe some early works I did as I was figuring out how I most liked to work. Fabric was always part of the equation as my preferred medium, but I was still casting about trying different methods. Thread drawing was a phase I went through on my way to finding and figuring out fabric collage.

That’s a young Tom above, before much of his hair had migrated from the top of his head to his face.

Check out the blog this Saturday, when I update the Quilt Story of “Surprise Me,” a quilt based on a long-ago surprise birthday party for Tom attended by two college friends.

  • You are incredible and so inspiring. Just love to look at your work, just don’t have the money and talent to do this, but Thanks for all the eye candy.
