Coming up Saturday in your regular blog post, I’ll talk about my Maine Quilt Retreat held here last week in Harpswell. Attending that retreat was repeat student Jean Savalchak. That’s Jean’s work above—a portrait of her husband. This quilt originally appeared in a December 2016 Finish Line blog post—where another dozen impressive quilts are featured—and seemed like a good choice for this Throwback Thursday selection.
In the original blog post I mentioned that there was a sweet story behind the original photograph Jean’s piece is based on. At the time I couldn’t remember the details, however, so here now is the story in full:
“My husband’s name is Martin. The photo was taken in 1978 on New Year’s Eve in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. We were hiking on the Kramerplateau Weg which was a good vantage point for viewing the fireworks display in the town below us. The hikers were toasting the New Year with a bit of gluhwein! It was snowing the whole time.”
Jean’s quilt of Martin will be shown at the Maine Quilts 2018 show in Augusta, Maine, July 25-28, where my “Specimens” quilt exhibit will also be on display.
If you have a quilt that you have finished from one of my classes or from my book or from the Online Master Class Manual, please send them to me to include in a future edition of The Finish Line. Since I don’t have any teaching in July and August, I’ll be looking for some more completed student work to share! So send in those pictures here.
Website Malfunction CORRECTED
Tom is still feeling a little hesitant to call it a win, for fear of jinxing it, but the website seems to be functioning normally now. This includes the options for purchasing the Fabric Collage Online Master Class Manual and patterns for fabric collage.
Thank you for your patience while we (I mean Tom) corrected the problem.
