I debuted my new two-week Fabric Collage Immersion workshops last September with a class in Bar Harbor, Maine. It was such an overall hit with both students and myself that I’m now scheduling a two-week class, someplace, every year. For 2026, I’m returning this April to a favorite annual location where one week has never been enough—Woodland Ridge Retreat in Wisconsin.

Due to last minute cancellations, there are three openings for this Fabric Collage Immersion class, running from Tuesday, April 21 through Saturday, May 2. Our days off will be the Sunday and Monday between the two 5-day weeks.

Woodland Ridge is a fabulous all-inclusive location—Chris Daly (the owner of the retreat center and Dye Candy Fabrics) takes wonderful care of us with lodging, meals, roomy and well lit classrooms, and an amazing quilt store (yes, up and down the hallways. I should have started with that, right?) all in one place. It’s a great excuse to keep your slippers on all day!

If you like the idea of experiential travel—learning with your travel and travel with your learning—consider this April 2026 class. Yet to be determined field trips, restaurants, lounging at the retreat, wandering on the wooded trails, or weekend homework in the classroom will be on the list of things to do. Chris and I have already discussed locations to visit over the open weekend including: Cultural Cloth, SR Harris Fabric, and for a special dinner out, Owamni.

Looking back on my first two-week Immersion class last year in Bar Harbor, we had the luxury of setting a relaxed pace over the ten workdays, which seemed to promote great progress in class. There was time for deep bonds to grow between classmates and time to clear your head and leave the “work” behind and explore the surrounding area together.

The two Throwback Thursday posts linked below, give examples of both the in-class and out-of-class Immersion experience in Maine 2025. I look forward to sharing this year’s immersive two-week collage adventure at Woodland Ridge Retreat in Wisconsin. Will you come join me?

Susan Carlson Ongoing Open Studio Hours

Weekly Fabric Collage Coaching

1/2 hour time slots, $65 each

One afternoon a week, I’ll be available to help, encourage, and coach anyone who needs it—between the hours of 1pm-4pm Eastern Time (for instance, this would be between 10am-1pm Pacific Time).

Coaching could be to continue working on an in-progress collage, or to begin a new project—whatever is desired.

Sign-up can be for one day or multiple days—every week, every two weeks, once a month or once only. These sessions will be recorded and emailed to you, just as coaching sessions are, so they can be referred to as needed.

January & February 2026 sign-up dates have come and gone, but new weekly dates will be added starting in May—after a couple in-person classes have also come and gone—and I’m back in my studio. Maybe you can join me then!

From an Open Studio Hours participant who also recently took a class with me:

I can’t recommend enough this new format. I’ve met with Susan three times since our class (once a week) and each session has been inspiring, motivating, and very helpful in terms of defining my path forward (and also creating some accountability relative to that path…). Before each session, I think about what areas I would like to focus on and send off a photo with my questions. In this way, I get from Susan exactly the support I need, plus a video recording to remember it. Meanwhile, preparing for my session helps me make my project a priority so I see ongoing progress, which is gratifying.

Honestly, this was the format I was hoping for. I told Susan I wanted to write a testimonial about it because I was so happy she was offering it. So, if you’re like me and a periodic check-in keeps you learning, growing, and doing your best work, sign up for coaching. Maybe I’ll see you there (you get to listen in on other sessions during the open studio you attend). —LeahGrace Kayler
