I’m currently at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky visiting the display of a dozen of my “Specimens” quilts. I am honored to have my quilts shown in such a prestigious venue. I hope many of you will have a chance to visit them, now extended through December.

Special Announcement

The Specimens Exhibit

has been extended through December 30, 2024!

Here’s a video of me introducing the show!

But if you can’t make it in person, here’s a few sample photos to hold you over. In a future follow-up post I’ll do a  write up and provide more photos and maybe more video too.

I’ll be here a couple more days as I teach a three day class to a group of 20 students. Stay tuned for a post about the class as well! [UPDATE: Here’s the NQM Fishy Class post!]

“Winfrieda” and “Crocodylus Smylus” greet visitors.

“Earthshine” and “Gombessa”
A comfy spot.

“Fructos”, “Dixie Dingo Dreaming”, and “Kaloli Moondance”

  • Your work is fanominal and what a great exhibit to have all your treasures in one place. I would love to get up close to Freida. I have been lucky enough to be in one of your classes and have been a long time fan. Best wishes for many more years of art for us to enjoy.

  • Oh, Susan, what a fantastic display! You must be so very proud. It is an honor, well deserved! Certainly wish I could see it in person but you do a great job of presenting it to us. Thanks!

  • What a wonderful display of your work. I was lucky enough and so excited to be in Houston when Stevie was there. I saw your rhinoceros first on the long wall and ran around to the front hoping to see the crocodile…and there she was! I do love your work. Congrats on your exhibit!

  • The museum did a beautiful job with the exhibit! Congratulations! Your work is beautiful and soulful.

  • Hi Susan – we have a “Dixie Dingo”, too! Never heard of them until we got our rescue, Buddy, from our local shelter and I kept researching to find out what his breed is. I found “Carolina Dog”, which is just another name for Dixie Dingo. Our Buddy is the sweetest dog! He was 4-5 years old when we got him and he was already trained. He’s a real character sometimes! We adore him, feel like we won the rescue dog lottery! I’ve never met someone who had a dog of the same breed (I know he’s a mix – did you know that AKC now recognizes the breed? Not sure of how it fits into their regular criteria but at least they recognize them as a “breed”!).
I’ve loved your work forever and have made multiple “fish quilts” from your book. The polar bear made of lace & doilies is brilliant! I live in Crossville, TN now, I need to get up to the NQM in Paducah!
Best wishes! I don’t think I can attach a photo of Buddy but if you go to my Facebook page, he’s there!
    All best, Gail
