Faces are challenging to create in fabric collage, which is why back in 2020, I chose to host an eight-part Zoom series, Thursday Night in My Studio Live: Facial Features. Attendees were then encouraged to participate in an exercise using a template face I provided. The results of a few of those student works are seen in today’s Throwback Thursday. (Including the fanciful collaged face above, by Lynne Hummel.)

In June of this year, I introduced a new eWorkshop focused on fabric collage portraiture called Facial Features. This online learning resource utilizes those videos created during the Thursday Night in My Studio sessions. While I was confident the information would still be useful to those wanting to learn fabric collage portraiture, I also wanted to test it.

This spring I had the perfect opportunity to give the eWorkshop a test drive. I had already scheduled a Live Online Fabric Collage Portraiture Class with a few advanced students. As a bonus I made the Facial Features eWorkshop available to them as a class resource. Because each video focuses on a specific facial feature—eyes, nose, mouth, and so on—it was helpful to both me and my students to be able to refer them to the video of the feature they were working on to give them a depth of instruction (each feature’s video is approximately one-hour long) I would have had the time to cover in a class.

This Saturday in your regular post, I’ll introduce the first four students in that Fabric Collage Portraiture class so you can see for yourself the fantastic results they produced.

The Facial Features eWorkshop is best used in conjunction with the Fabric Collage Master Class, and we offer a discount to new members of the Master Class when you purchase both. Click the links above, to learn more about these online learning resources.
