Fabric Collage with MISA in Bar Harbor, Maine

We still have a few spots open in the class I will teach for MISA—Madeline Island School of the Arts—to launch their Inaugural 5-Day Workshop in Bar Harbor, Maine at the Atlantic Oceanside Resort September 5-9, 2022.

Yes that’s right, about 4 weeks from now, beginning on Labor Day Monday! The summertime “shoulder season” is what us locals see as the BEST time to be in Maine—the weather is still warm but tends to cool off nicely at night, and the water has had a few months to warm up to “refreshing” from June’s “barely above frigid” water temps (for those who dare to take a wade or dip in the bay or enjoy other water oriented activities). Crowds drop significantly after the holiday weekend, yet vacation oriented shops, restaurants, tours and other day-destinations are still open.

And let’s not forget the biggest claim to fame of Bar Harbor, Maine—the gateway to Acadia National Park.

Atlantic Oceanside Resort

The picturesque New England location of the Atlantic Oceanside Resort, overlooks Frenchman Bay with nature cruises departing daily from their private pier. I could probably be talked into scheduling our class time around a morning or two of extracurricular activities, kinda like they do on a quilting cruise! For me, I think this will be comparable to a quilting cruise with locale, setup, and views, but without side-effects of getting sea-sick (which I tend to do) and taking nonstop Dramamine. All three daily meals are included in the included lodging and meal plan, all located at this self-contained resort.

The resort is located one mile from downtown Bar Harbor—packed with photogenic opportunities and quaint shopping (a.k.a. shore leave). For travel to Bar Harbor, the main airport is Bangor International about one hour distant. Portland, Maine has a nice airport as well, for those who would enjoy adding a three to four hour scenic drive up the coast.

Come share the beauties of my home state of Maine as I teach you fabric collage.

Fabric Images: Create a fabric collage quilt of your own chosen subject using Susan’s innovative layering/collage method. Individual design, fabric selection, construction, borders, and quilting will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the collage piecing process. Students will draw their design onto a foundation fabric and fill in the design with fabrics of their choice—without the use of templates. For about an hour each morning, Susan starts with a discussion and demonstration that will lay out the basics of fabric collage and will give you the information you need to start your work day. She then visits each student in turn to address individual needs and their project’s unique challenges.

I look forward to seeing those who can join me and the hospitality of MISA in Bar Harbor this September!
