Africa is our theme this week as I lead up to my participation in the Quilt Africa Online Summit next weekend, July 6-8, 2022. My participation will of course be virtual. If you want to attend virtually yourself, please click the link below to purchase tickets. There are numerous speakers and instructors in the 3-day line-up. For myself, I’ll be talking about African fabrics and how I have used them in fabric collage.

Today’s TBT quilt doesn’t use many African fabrics. It does, however, have an African subject. The marabou stork is a large scavenging bird considered by some to be one of the ugliest animals on the planet. I like to think that my version, “Kaloli Moondance”, in the link below, sees through some of the bird’s exterior flaws to the beauty within. Kaloli is made entirely out of scrap fabrics from other projects, which made sense considering she is one of the meanest scavengers on the African plain, reportedly making vultures and even hyenas wait their turn at the carcass!

This Saturday in your regular post, I’ll share a little more about African fabrics and their use in collages and quilts. So brew your cuppa and look for my email in a couple days!
