Today my mom turns 89 years old!! Readers of my blog posts know plenty about my family, both people and pets, through my fabric collage portrait quilts. And for the last year and a half or so, you’ve read about my mom (a.k.a.Oma) and her stuffed pumpkins. Today’s TBT links back to the original Oma’s Pumpkin Patch post from October 2020—of my mom’s fabric story that has led to her pumpkins.

From last June, an especially lovely photo of our Oma

There’s not much my mom wants or needs, so one of the things we’re doing for her in celebration of her special day, is to catch up on photographing (my job), and posting (my son Sam’s job), new pumpkin additions to Oma’s Etsy shop. These newest stuffed pumpkins are ones she’s been making since we posted the One Year Anniversary of Oma’s Pumpkin Patch last September. My mom has added many more pumpkins to the newest crop—for autumn, the holidays, and more recently, winter varieties. There’s even been a recent flurry of pumpkin activity the last few days that Sam and I haven’t quite caught up on yet.

In other words, there will be two releases of pumpkins this week—a dozen new beauties have been added to the shop for today, and by Saturday’s post, there will be a second round of newbies. So if you’re interested in seeing what Oma’s been up to, check on the shop link every so often. You can leave messages for her in the comments below, or on her Etsy page.

Today is also my parents’ 62nd wedding anniversary! So before I leave you to the TBT, below is a short message from the two of them, Oma and Morfar (Oma is German for grandmother, Morfar is Swedish for grandfather). Those of you familiar with “The Princess Bride” (one of our favorites), will recognize the reference to the movie in the clip below. 🙂

  • Happy Happy Birthday, Oma, my friend and always one of my very favorite creative people. I love the picture of you – the first one in this post with your hair blowing in the wind – you are holding beautiful flowers and beautiful flowers in the background and probably taken in front of your porch which shows your and Morfar’s creativity. Your new pumpkins are beautiful – you are an inspiration to me, to keep on keeping on and trying to be creative myself . Happy Anniversary to you and Bill. I will be thinking of your both today and hugging you tight!

  • Oma, I read all about your pumpkins on the Etsy place. I am almost as old as you and understand your joy in staying busy and productive. When we have done this all our lives it is not work but pleasure! I have one of your pumpkins that Susan gave me when I was at her workshop in Portland in October 2017; so proud to have it and enjoy it in my fall decorations every year. Happy birthday!

  • HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY< Oma!!! It's such a delight that your daughter, Susan, has been so nice to share you with us. Love, Love, Love your pumpkins. I bought a few for gifts, until they arrived – I kept them for myself. So, this year I did purchase some for gifts, and the recipients loved them. The photograph of you smiling with the wind blowing through your hair on a beautiful Maine day is fabulous. And the video of you and your husband is adorable. Hope you enjoyed a marvelous birthday. And keep on smiling that beautiful smile. You've become special to many of us. You're an inspiration.
