This weekend is the Winter Solstice. December 21 is the longest night of the year and the official beginning to winter—here in the Northern Hemisphere, at least. In recognition of this celestial event, this Saturday in your regular post, I present a collection of sun and moon fabric collage quilts. This Finish Line post features quilts made by readers and students, some based on my sun and moon patterns, some not.

To get you in the celestial mode, this Throwback Thursday reintroduces you to my quilt “Twilight,” created in 1994, which personifies the descent of night and the retreat of day. The sun and moon feature prominently in this piece though treated very differently than you will see in this week’s regular Saturday post.
