Over eight years ago, in August 2016, we created a new collection of blog posts under the title of The Finish Line. This was the first time we featured the completed work of other fabric collage artists, specifically students who had started their quilts in one of my classes. It’s been a place to celebrate the finished fabric collage quilts that before, had only been seen in-progress in classes.
Now, over 100 Finish Line posts later, I look back with fondness at those early editions. In hindsight, the only thing I would do different would be to feature fewer quilts per post—to give each artwork more space to shine and to be given the attention they deserve—such as Joan Hodgeboom’s “Musk Ox” (photo above).
So for today’s Throwback Thursday post, we revisit Finish Line #1, to give these impressive quilts another week in the limelight. Brew yourself a cuppa or two, get warm and comfy, and soak up the color and variety of the subjects and stories of the artwork you see below. Enjoy and be sure to get to the end—you’ll find them all quite inspiring. Thank you to everyone who has submitted quilts to share!
