Today’s Throwback Thursday post is one that Tom guest-wrote is an inspirational piece intended to get you motivated as an artist. Embracing the idea of always being beginning is a helpful way to reset your creativity.
We place many expectations on ourselves when creating art. Striving to be perfect is perhaps the biggest weight we carry. We should treat ourselves with all the kindness we give beginners in any field—with patience and understanding and encouragement. As beginners we will make mistakes, but we will also make discoveries. And that’s where the learning—that’s where the magic—happens.
The in-progress quilt which Tom alluded to at the end of the Throwback Thursday Post linked below (first posted in March 2022), was my lace polar bear “Winfrieda”—beginning photo (above) and finished photo (below).
Twelve of my fabric collage quilts are currently on display at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky.
Specimens has now been extended until December 30, 2024, at the National Quilt Museum
