Starting in two weeks is my new Zoom follow-along class—Fascinating Fabric Collage Bugs and Butterflies. Currently there’s over 50 people signed up to watch live over four Thursday evenings as I create a color- and print-filled insect quilt. Many of them will follow along to create their own bug collage. However, if you’d rather kick back and lounge with a beverage of choice in hand while watching my new quilt develop, that works as well. Recordings of each presentation will be available to view at any later time that works for you.
I was pleased by the success of this Zoom format when we held a similar weekly class—Quilter’s Fantastical Trophy Fish Follow-Along—in February of this year. Peruse some of the student results (such as Shirley Wendt’s “Fish and Friends,” above) in today’s Throwback Thursday. In that post you will also find links to the three other posts that highlighted these students’ fabulous fish.
These hour-and-a-half long, weekly classes are great for both beginners and experienced fabric collage artists. For novices the class introduces the theory and technique of fabric collage using versatile and low-stress subject matter and our fabric stashes, which are just waiting to be put to use. For those with prior experience the project provides a playground where we (me included!) can “cut loose” with a subject that invites the freedom to have even more fun with our fabric.
