As this post reaches you I will be half-way through my five-day class at Woodland Ridge Retreat in Downsville, Wisconsin. Woodland Ridge is run by Chris Daly (that’s the the two of us above, in 2018). I have taught at the Retreat Center numerous times before, most recently in November 2019. Today’s Throwback Thursday revisits that 2019 class.
As I reviewed this post, I came across the slideshow of my student’s work (below). As you flip through these images, I think it’s a good reminder of the time and hard work it takes to create a fabric collage quilt. Depending on the subject, a fabric collage can take a couple days, a couple weeks, a few months, or even longer. Having realistic goals helps to tamp down any concern about the sometimes slow pace of fabric collage. Overheard from a student in today’s class, “All day and two bleeping eyes!” Ahhh but two very nice bleeping eyes. You’ll see numerous eyes in this new class’ post in a couple weeks.
Of course there’s a lot of variation in how quickly people work. Some progress rapidly, others not-so-rapidly. But in the end, as the following images show, we can all end up with a piece we can be proud of.
