Shortly after “Tickled Pink,” I listed all the animals I’d like to create in fabric. A dodo was at the top of the list. Everyone knows the story of the dodo, though I thought it unfair that its history is often seen as comment on the dodo’s intelligence rather than the tragedy that it was. With the composition and pose I tried to convey my dodo with a sense of good humor but also dignity. All the fabrics used in this piece are polka dot prints.

Susan,
I want to make your dodo bird quilt but I can’t find any pattern for it. My moms name is Dodie and the kids call her gramma Dodo. I want to make this for her 90th birthday present.
Sorry, Diane. Polka Dodo is a one-of-a-kind bird. I don’t sell a pattern for him. Happy Birthday to Dodie!
I took your class on the Spiral quilt, i bought your book and while you were teaching us you had some patterns for sale. I purchased two one was the Sea Turtle and the other was on of your fishes. You taught the class at my Guild El Camino Quilting Guild in Oceanside , Calif. Well of course I but the patterns in a sage place and of course there are now even safe to me. I would like to purchase them again where do I find them?
You can buy them right here on my website. They are PDFs that you download and printout small and have enlarged to the size you want.
Is it ok if I try to make the Dodo bird on my own since you dont sell the pattern?
Linda, I would not like to see you try to recreate my dodo. However, I encourage you to create your own dodo bird based on another drawing or photograph of your choice. Thanks, Susan
